Cricket's three formats and major tournaments

T20, ODI and Test — each format has a different style of betting and calls for a different approach.

Fastest format

T20 Cricket

This twenty-over-per-side format is the fastest. BPL (Bangladesh Premier League), IPL and the ICC T20 World Cup are the most popular among Bangladeshi fans. Sixes and wickets every over can shift the odds in an instant, which makes live betting especially interesting here.

One-day match

ODI Cricket

In this fifty-over format the pace of the match is slower than T20, but no less dramatic. The ICC Cricket World Cup and bilateral series are the main draws for ODI betting. Total runs, partnerships and mid-match momentum all play a big role here.

Five-day classic

Test Cricket

The highest level of cricket. In this five-day format, pitch conditions, weather and the balance between batting and bowling reshape the odds each day. Bangladesh Test series and ICC World Test Championship matches receive particular attention here.

Beyond cricket, golari also offers betting on football, tennis and other sports. The key difference is that football matches generally end in ninety minutes and a draw is a separate result, whereas in limited-overs cricket there is no draw. This means the structure of the betting markets is different as well. See full details on sports betting at golari Bet to understand what types of bets are available for each sport.

Popular cricket betting markets

A brief introduction to the types of bets you can place on a match.

Market What it means Example
Match Winner A bet on which team will win the match. Team A or Team B — pick one; there is no draw in limited-overs cricket.
Toss Winner Which team will win the toss. Two simple possibilities — will Team A or Team B win the toss.
Top Batsman Which batter will score the most runs in an innings. Pick which batter will score the highest in Team A's innings.
Total Runs Over/Under Whether the total runs in a match or innings will be above or below a set number. Will Team A's innings total be more than 165 (Over) or less (Under) — pick one.
First Wicket Partnership The combined runs scored by the openers before the first wicket falls. A bet on whether the opening partnership will add more than 30 runs.
Top Bowler Which bowler will take the most wickets in an innings. Which bowler will be the highest wicket-taker for Team B.
Multi Bet (multiple selections) Multiple matches or markets are combined to increase the odds, but all selections must win. Combining the Match Winner from three separate matches multiplies each set of odds together. If even one is wrong, the entire bet is lost.

Odds are written in three formats — what does each mean?

Odds on a betting site can appear in any one of three formats — decimal, fractional or American. All three express the same probability; only the way they are written differs.

Example 1 — one bet shown in three formats

Team A to win, stake ৳1,000.
Decimal 3.00 = Fractional 2/1 = American +200.
If it wins, the total return is ৳3,000 (৳2,000 profit + original ৳1,000). If it loses, ৳1,000 is gone.

Example 2 — odds on the favourite

Team B to win — Decimal 1.80 = Fractional 4/5 = American -125.
American minus odds indicate how much you need to stake to win ৳100.
A ৳1,000 stake returns ৳1,800 if it wins (৳800 profit).

Decimal odds are the easiest to keep in mind — multiply your stake by the decimal odds and you get the total return.

golari Multi Bet Slip Multiple Match Selections

Multi Bet and calculating bets across multiple matches

The potential return on a multi bet is much higher than on a single bet, because each selection's odds are multiplied together. But the risk is also higher — if one selection is wrong, the entire bet is lost.

Multi Bet Example 4

Three selections: odds 1.50 × 1.70 × 1.90 = 4.84.
Stake ৳100 — if all three selections are correct, the return is ৳484.
If even one is wrong, the full ৳100 is lost.

This is why experienced bettors keep the number of selections low in a multi bet. Always treat cricket betting as entertainment — keep every bet within your budget. Read the responsible gaming guide for some straightforward advice on managing your budget.

Live in-play betting — placing bets while the match is on

A wicket falls, an over is bowled — odds shift in an instant. That is where live betting gets interesting.

Odds movement on a wicket

When a strong batter gets out, the winner odds for their team lengthen. At the same time, the odds for the bowling side shorten — this is the moment to make a quick decision.

Run rate at the end of an over

If the run rate is low through the first ten overs, the chasing team's odds lengthen. Once the powerplay is over with wickets still in hand, the odds come back down.

Target and overs remaining

If more runs are still needed in the last five overs, the defending team's odds shorten. Checking the live scorecard and working out the remaining overs and the required run rate makes the picture clear.

Next Over Betting

A market just on how many runs will be scored in the next over — available in T20. A quick decision with a quick result.

A stable internet connection helps when doing live betting — golari's live betting page works well on mobile data in Dhaka or Chattogram too. Live bet easily on mobile with the golari App.

golari Cricket Betting Tips and Strategy Guide

Some useful advice before you start

Betting is a form of entertainment — keeping that in mind, a few practical points can make the experience better.

1

Set your budget first

Decide the maximum amount you will spend before each betting session. Do not go beyond it.

2

Focus on one format

T20, ODI and Test are three different games. Start with the format you understand best.

3

Keep your markets small

The more selections you add to a multi bet, the risk grows considerably. It is better not to combine more than three selections at once.

4

Do not place big bets on emotion

Placing an unusually large bet because your favourite team is playing is a common mistake. Make decisions based on the situation.

5

Understand the odds before you bet

Multiplying your stake by the decimal odds gives you the total potential return — work this out before placing a bet.

Betting on football and other sports

Alongside cricket, golari also offers football betting. In football, a match result has three possibilities — win, loss or draw — which is different from limited-overs cricket's two-outcome market. There are also separate markets for number of goals, first goalscorer and half-time score.

Football

Football Betting

Unlike cricket, a draw is a valid result in football, so the 1x2 (Home/Draw/Away) market is the most common. Goal Totals (Over/Under 2.5 goals) and Both Teams to Score (BTTS) markets are also popular.

Others

Other Sports

Tennis, badminton or kabaddi — different sports have different types of markets. In tennis you can find bets ranging from Set Winner to Game Totals. Knowing the rules of each sport before betting makes for a better experience.

Common questions and answers

The most frequently asked questions about cricket betting

In T20, each innings is only twenty overs, so a single wicket or a big six can shift the odds quickly. In ODI, with fifty overs per side, the pace of the match changes more gradually and there is more room for mid-match recovery. Live betting is more active in T20 because the situation can change dramatically every over.

Simple rule — multiply your stake by the decimal odds. Example: ৳1,000 × decimal 3.00 = ৳3,000 total return (৳2,000 profit + original ৳1,000). For favourites, odds are closer to 1, so the profit is smaller — for example, at decimal odds of 1.80, a ৳1,000 bet returns a total of ৳1,800.

Yes, quite different. Pre-match betting is done before the match starts — the odds are fixed at that point. Live in-play betting is done while the match is ongoing, so the odds change instantly after every wicket or big over. Live betting requires quick decisions. Many markets are only available pre-match, while some markets only open during live play.

The more selections you add to a multi bet, the higher the combined odds become, but the lower the chance of winning all of them. An example with three selections: odds 1.50 × 1.70 × 1.90 = 4.84 — a ৳100 bet returns ৳484 if all go right. But if even one is wrong, the ৳100 is lost. Generally, keeping it to two or three selections keeps the risk manageable.

In T20 leagues like BPL, you will typically find Match Winner, Toss Winner, Top Batsman, Total Runs Over/Under, Method of First Wicket, Powerplay Runs and live in-play markets. In-play markets offer new odds every over. Which markets are open for a specific match can be seen directly on the betting page.
